What to Look for When Shopping for a Snowboard
Terrain
While all freestyle snowboards are generally lighter, shorter, and softer than a dedicated all-mountain board, if you favor a particular style of riding, focus on boards that are tailor-designed for that type of terrain to get the most gear-tech advantage. If you prefer to ride in the park or hit rails, jibs, and jumps, you want a board with optimal flex and more durable construction to help weather the features’ impacts on the boards. Those looking to huck serious air, meanwhile, should consider boards that help smooth out the landings, while half-pipe groms should gravitate toward boards with more forgiveness without adding too much flex than those that might cater to all-mountain freestyle riding.
Camber and Rocker
Both terms refer to the board’s silhouette and dictate which parts of the board are in contact with the snow when riding. Camber profiles have a bit of a lift underfoot, which gives the board a lively, stable ride and provides a degree of pop and responsiveness to help you hit tricks. Meanwhile, the aptly-named rocker profile flips the script, with a more snow-facing arch underfoot, creating a pronounced upturn at the tail and the tip, ideal for powder and park-riding. Rocker boards are typically softer than camber and deliver a surf-like feel, turning more easily than flat or camber boards—so they’re also good for beginners. But most of today’s freestyle boards are combos of both rocker and camber, providing good edge-control and pop from the camber underfoot, along with the floaty, easy-to-turn aspects at the tip and tail.
Shape
Given the creative nature of freestyle snowboarding, most boards in this category are almost universally true twin-shaped, meaning the rig is completely symmetrical from tail to tip. This allows you to ride switch and regular with equal confidence, and also allows for you to land tricks in either configuration. But for some riding styles—especially for beginners—a directional shape keeps things simple, making it easy to line up turns and tricks.
Flex
While all boards flex both lengthwise and across the board, most snowboard flex ratings refer to the former, simply because that’s the one that most impacts the board’s performance. The rating range is from one to ten, with ten being the stiffest. Most freestyle boards lean toward a soft flex, which makes them more forgiving and easier to turn—optimal characteristics for a lively, easy-to-control freestyle ride. Stiffer boards help maintain speed and are geared to deliver more grip when turning, and are better suited for all-mountain resort riding or carving up the backcountry.

Среди комментариев были, и вопросы с кем лучше осваивать технику езды на доске и стоит ли, по моему мнению, пользоваться услугами профессиональных тренеров. Мой ответ: стоит, только если у вас есть лишние деньги. Так как у меня их не было, всему меня учили друзья, но поверьте, уговорить их было не просто. Почему? Посудите сами, вы едите на горнолыжный курорт раз, ну может два раза в год, на день или на два. Я, конечно, не говорю здесь про очень богатых личностей, которые могут себе позволить что-то другое, я пишу про среднестатистического русского человека.
Так вот, не каждый друг, даже самый лучший, готов потратить свой один день на лыжах, или на борде, на ваше обучение. Да, если вы девушка, и парень хочет вас закадрить, то это другое дело. Но я настолько был приставучий, что моим друзьям ничего не осталось как обучить меня, за это я неплохо тогда выставился, дешевле было нанять инструктора. Конечно, инструктор будет самым оптимальным вариантом для тех, кто хочет научиться кататься. Если же вопрос стоит в трюках, то думаю, если у вас есть элементарные азы, то посмотрев видео в интернете и включив немного смекалку и мозги, вы быстро всему сами научитесь.
Но у этого подхода есть свой жирный минус, кстати. О нем никто нигде не говорит. Да, самостоятельно можно учится, но, во-первых, это время. Во-вторых, это ошибки, на которые никто вам со стороны не укажет, и вы будете думать, что вы правильно катаете. Поэтому, везде есть свои плюсы и минусы.
Экипировка для сноубординга
Доска для сноубординга (борд) – самый важный элемент экипировки для сноубординга. Сноуборд представляет собой многослойную конструкцию с металлическим кантом по периметру нижней части.
Ботинки – второй по важности элемент снаряжения для сноубординга. Ботинки призваны обеспечить устойчивое положение ступни и защиту от травм.
Крепления – элемент базовой экипировки сноубордиста, подбираются под ботинки.

Оснащение и экипировка
Сноуборд изготавливается из дерева и искусственных материалов.
Наряду с универсальными, выпускаются специальные доски для отдельных дисциплин, которые отличаются друг от друга, прежде всего, по степени жесткости (мягкие предназначены для фристайла, более жесткие – для слалома), а также по размеру и форме. Сноуборды для фристайла короче и маневреннее слаломных. Фрирайд-доски длиннее фристайльных и более направленные (см. ниже) по форме. Слаломные – длинные и узкие. При определении подходящей ростовки (длины) доски должен также учитываться вес спортсмена, – и (отчасти) рост.
Различают сноуборды направленные (т.е. с заданным – за счет конфигурации – направлением движения) и симметричные (с одинаковым носом и пяткой). В настоящее время выпускаются и так называемые «асиметрики», или «кривые доски», правая и левая сторона которых несколько отличаются, что облегчает выполнение поворотов.
В «геометрии» сноуборда большое значение имеет так называемая талия, или боковой радиус (степень изгиба доски), влияющий на маневренность.
Еще одна немаловажная характеристика доски – ее ширина. Выбор во многом определяется размером ноги будущего хозяина. Сейчас некоторые фирмы специально выпускают «расширенные» варианты своих стандартных моделей.
Обувь, как и сноуборды, бывает разная. Для фристайла (и фрирайда) нужна более мягкая обувь с соответствующим креплением, для слалома – жесткие, похожие на горнолыжные, ботинки и такое же крепление. (В креплении могут быть предусмотрены и дополнительные функции, например, гашение вибрации). По аналогии с используемыми в различных видах сноубординга досками и креплениями сами эти дисциплины иногда обозначают как «мягкие» и «жесткие».
Основные параметры при установке креплений на сноуборде – ширина стойки и угол разворота осей крепления (он колеблется от 0 градусов, т.е. перпендикулярно доске, до 90 градусов – вдоль продольной оси в направлении носка сноуборда). Представители фристайла, как правило, предпочитают более широкую и «перпендикулярную» стойку, а слаломисты тяготеют к узкой и «продольной» стойке.
Участники соревнований по слалому выступают в комбинезонах, а в фристайле – в более свободных костюмах. В гигантском слаломе и сноубордкроссе обязательно ношение специальных жестких шлемов с внутренним каркасом. Рекомендуется также использовать дополнительные средства защиты.
На соревнованиях не допускается использование аксессуаров, улучшающих физические возможности спортсмена: совершенствующих баланс, повышающих вес и пр.
Fashion Style of Freestylers
In the freestyle vs. freeride snowboarding style, there are quite a few stereotypes.
Freestylers are often compared toskateboarders. Many of them prefer baggy pants with visible underwear, clashing colors, and many have a rebellious nature.
While these stereotypes are common, it is hardly a rule or forced lifestyle. It is also known that most snowboard riders fall in the middle between freestyle riders and freeride riders.
Hipster and skateboarding style snowboarders are often spotted enjoying freeride courses or riding techniques. Freeride or mountain biking snowboarders are sometimes spotted attempting or practicing more stunts in their casual outings.
In the end, it’s all about finding what works for you and having fun.

Человеку весом 59-69 кг подойдет борд длиной 150-160 сантиметров. Фристайлеру массой более 76 кг стоит купить доску длиной от 159 см. При неидеальном соотношении веса и роста райдера сноуборд приобретается относительно роста — немного выше подбородка.
Ширина доски определяется исходя из размера ноги. Ботинок с креплением обязан находиться на поверхности снаряжения, не свисать. Максимальное отклонение от нормы — 1,6 см. Движение будет немного медленнее, если ботинок сильно вылезет за край борда. Поэтому обладателям большой стопы стоит выбирать широкие борды.

Слоупстайл, хаф-пайп, биг-эйр, стрит и бордеркросс – дисциплины, проводимые на X Играх , эквивалентных Олимпийским играм по экстремальным видам спорта. Хаф -пайп называется SuperPipe, потому что модуль намного больше обычного (например, для Олимпийских игр), а бордеркросс называется Snowboarder X (произносится Snowboarder Cross).
Хаф-пайп (Нагано, 1998), бордеркросс (Турин, 2006), слоупстайл (Сочи, 2014) и новый биг эйр (Пхенчхан, 2018) являются частью олимпийских дисциплин.

5 TOP SNOWBOARDING TIPS FOR BEGINNERS

Lots of snowboarding beginners think they can teach themselves. While it’s possible, you will save a lot of time and stress if you book onto a beginners snowboarding lesson. They will teach you the basic skills to standing up on a snowboard, how to turn and stop.
While trackies and hoodie might feel comfortable, you’ll regret wearing them on the mountain. Trust us. The mountains can be cold, hostile environments and you want to be wearing the right clothes up there.
Even in a snow dome, it’s cold and you want to protect your skin from the snow when you inevitably fall over. Make sure you have a snowboarding jacket and trousers. It’s not hard to find cheap snowboarding gear. Gloves are essential. If you are riding on the mountain, wear goggles. We would also recommend wearing a helmet to protect that noggin.
Snowboarding beginners fall over. A lot. It sounds kind of obvious, but you can buy a lot of gear to protect your body when you are learning to snowboard.
Helmet is the most obvious one. While many people still ride without a snowboarding helmet, they are becoming much more prevalent among skiers and snowboarders. You can rent one with your board or buy your own.
Broken wrists are one of the main injuries snowboarder encounter. You can buy wristguards from any good snowboarding shop. Wear mittens as they are tricky to fit under snug gloves.
Impact shorts are great. They are shorts with protective padding around your tailbone, cushioning your butt when you fall. I found these a lifesaver when I was learning to ride.

THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A FREESTYLE SNOWBOARD
Snowboards are some of the most diverse things on the slope. Every board is different and everyone has their own preferences. That being said, park riders love boards that do one thing well — pop. Weight, camber, rocker, core, and sidecut radius differentiate from board to board, and there isn’t one combination that is proven best. If you really want to know what works best for you, demo boards before you buy one. The most serious of riders need a board that lasts season after season but also fits their style best. Before you spend more than $400 on a board, try it out!
FLEX
Flex is how easily your board will bend. This directly relates to how much control you will have over your board on the ground and in the air.
SOFT: More forgiving, but requires much more strength to navigate and toss around. Better for beginners.
MEDIUM: A nice middle-ground, which most freestyle riders prefer. There is a balance between forgiveness and maneuverability.
STIFF: The most difficult boards to ride. Beginners will feel out of control, but masters will love the micro-control they will have.
ROCKER / CAMBER PROFILE
In order to understand how your board’s profile will affect it’s riding ability, you need to understand what camber, rocker, and flat profiles mean. Warning, there are many different types and combinations, but the ones explained below are the most important for freestyle riding.
FLAT: Just like it sounds! There is no arc or curve in the board at all.
CAMBER: A very slight upward curve in the middle of the board with contact points near the ends of the board.
ROCKER: Camber turned upside down, the board is shaped subtly like an arc.
CAMBER/ROCKER: This is where things get a bit confusing. Boards shaped like this look like a big W. The board cambers in the middle, allowing you to pop, but rocks near the tips, allowing for more control on turns, rails, and jibs.
FLAT/ROCKER: These boards are flat in the middle, but are a rocking shape near the edges, which allows for more control.
SIDECUT RADIUS
Snowboards have a very unique shape. It may appear that the front and back edge are curved and the middle of the board is straight. However, that is not the case. If you look carefully, you’ll see that snowboards actually have more of an arch-like shape. This shape is what allows for you to turn on the snow with control. In fact, each snowboard has a completely unique cut. The measurement of this cut is called the sidecut radius. If you imagine that a circle was drawn with the same circular shape of your board, the sidecut radius is the measurement of the radius in that circle. So what does this mean for you? Well, if you want to be a freestyle snowboarder, it is recommended to stick with a sidecut between 7 to 8 meters.
A smaller sidecut radius will allow you to make much sharper turns. Snowboarders who go back and forth on the slopes quicker, in a slalom like way, tend to look for the smallest sidecut possible. A longer sidecut radius will not allow for you to turn as sharply, but will give you more stability at high speeds. If you plan to go down steeper slopes, or consider yourself an intermediate snowboarder, this may be for you. Snowboards that have a sidecut longer than 8 meters are regarded as “big mountain” because they are used by experts in extreme environments.
SHAPE
Snowboards come in 2 different shapes. The traditional shape is like a skateboard. Snowboarders refer to this as “true twin”. The other type of snowboard shape resembles more of a surfboard. This allows for a board to float more in deep snow.
Most freestyle boards are true twin shaped. Why? Well first and foremost, freestyle riders like to ride switch. “Riding switch” is when you ride in the opposite stance. So if you ride with your left foot forward, for example, riding switch would mean that your right foot would be in front. Freestyle snowboarders tend to ride switch often because they can do more tricks. Why? Well they will not have to lose speed switching back to their dominant stance after a landing. True twin shaped boards are also easier to twist. This means it will be easier to spin your board around and land 180s, 360s, and other spin tricks. Because true twin shaped boards allow you to ride switch without losing any performance. Directional boards may be better in powder or deep snow conditions, but true twin boards are preferred by freestyle snowboarders.
What Is the Difference Between Freestyle and Freeride Snowboarding?
Many people struggle to tell the difference between freestyle and freeride snowboarding. These two different riding styles are not a competition, and both can be a lot of fun. Some riders simply prefer freeriding or freestyling or might just choose a freeride board or a freestyle board. There are also lots of individuals who enjoy both freestyle and freeriding styles or who might linger in the middle between these two distinctive winter sports.
There is no real definition or specific term that defines the difference between freeriding and freestyling. But, in general, the main differences between these two boarding styles or courses are as follows:
Freeride Snowboarding
This form of snowboarding mostly includes off-pristine and powder boarding. The style is focused on going fast, taking gnarly lines, and includes a couple of natural tricks or features.
Freeriding can be a great snowboarding style for complete beginners because you don’t have to be a pro to pull off most of the tricks or to complete most of these courses. Freestyle Snowboarding
Freestyle snowboarding is more complex because it involves more tricks. These courses are usually man-made in snowboard parks and often include features like rails so you can give different types of stunts like jibbing on rails, pistine buttering, jumps, and tricks a try.
Lots of beginner snowboarders also love freestyle courses because they can practice the same trick repeatedly until they finally master the technique.
Difference Between Freestyle and Freeride Boards
The boards for freestyle and freeride snowboarding are different from each other. They vary in shape, size, binding position, and flex rating. You can also use an all-mountain snowboard that can be functional for both freestyle and freeriding techniques and courses.
Freestyle snowboards are usually shorter than freeride boards. The shape is a true twin (the same in the front and back), while freeride boards tend to have a directional shape (difference in the tail and nose). Some (not all) freestyle boards can offer more flex compared to freeride boards.

Выбор сноуборда

Stiffness / Flex
Generally the stiffer a snowboard is the more responsive it will be, the better it will be able to hold an edge in snow, and the better the handling will be at higher speeds. This all sounds very good, but also the stiffer a snowboard is the less forgiving it will be if you make any mistakes. Freestyle snowboards are generally quite soft as they need to be a bit forgiving, and the flex makes tricks easier to do. Snowboards intended for higher speeds and responsiveness will be stiffer. Heavier riders also need a slightly stiffer flex, with lighter riders needing a softer flex.
Snowboards are also made with different flex patterns, this is how the stiffness of the board changes along its length. Some boards will have the symmetrical flex along their length so that they are the same to ride in either direction, whereas others might have a directional flex, for example with a softer nose to help deal with bumps and a stiffer tail to increase the pop you get in an .

Из всей статьи новичку я бы советовал выбирать сноуборд, обращая внимание только на три параметра:
- Длина и ширина сноуборда.
- Прогиб.
- Жесткость доски.
Потому что остальные параметры вторичны по сравнению с тем, есть ли у Вас вообще какая-либо доска и умеете ли Вы уверенно кататься.
В конце, хочу оставить еще раз основную мысль статьи, что без практики выбрать сноуборд, который Вам идеально подойдет – невозможно.
